Umbrellas

The Great Brisket countdown has begun....

Yesterday all four of us we went to three different stores in search of a brisket. My father always referred to it as going to the store "Filipino style" when everybody piled into the car to buy a loaf of bread. Meg has been working for two days on a delicious smelling poundcake and plum dessert. OilMan and Rick got up early to start the fire in the barbecue and have been checking on it all day to make sure the smoke and temperature levels are just right.

My job is to make coleslaw.

We took a break for lunch at our favorite outdoor patio winery/deli. The weather is lovely and I was struck by the umbrellas against the sky, the shadows on the ground and the single glass of rose.

We stopped by a fourth store on the way home, and I amused myself taking pictures of the colonnade of red pillars and green lattices in front of the Safeway. A young man rounding up stray shopping carts from the car park admired my camera, and we had a nice conversation about taking pictures and turning them into art. He said he does the same thing with music.

A call has been made to the septic system man who is coming out next week to educate OilMan about our own system and have a look at our field of dreams. He says some properties cannot be made to perch even with an engineered system. If that is the case here, then it will be then end of this dream, but nobody else will be able to build a house there either....
