A Duchess passes through.

A couple of days ago, we received a tip off that The Duchess of Sutherland would be passing through on Friday afternoon on the way to Perth. So off we duly trotted to a suitable line side location and here is the result - the best of several, some too dark to use, the old Duchess drifted effortlessly past with a substantial rake of coaches in tow. Being used to rumbling smoky diesels, we rather forget just how quiet and powerful a well handled steam engine can be.
This morning while MaggieD, Ali, Euan & Eve went off to Stirling, I stayed home to deal with some domestic tasks. Just as I was finishing my lunch, I heard a familiar voice shouting for "Pa!" Euan was back - and MaggieD, Ali & Eve too, and he wanted a look and listen to Grandpa's trains. I have fitted up a sound system which provides the appropriate cuffs, whistles and hoots to order. It's all good fun.
Well, the weekend is upon us and so is the rain! Do go carefully on the roads in case they are a bit slippery.
