Balance

Towing two barges in tandem on shallow water with some wind is a delicate play between catenary, tow wire length, wind force, bollard pull, deplacement and draught of the barges and a couple of hundred other factors I am not aware of or don't understand. Each barge has it's own tow wire connected to the our winch and the trick is to adjust it in a way that the wire of the aft barge is hanging underneath the front barge without touching her bottom and without touching the seafloor. Add 25 knots wind and a waterdepth of 21 meters and that will give you more than enough thinking. That's all behind us now, shortly after i took this picture we paid out some more wire and we're having a comfortable 40 meters water below our keel. Tomorrow I'll try to make a little bit more interesting picture.
