Furniture Removal

Set off early to pick up a used leather sofa just north of Augsburg & close to the Danube. Our old sofas are long past their best having been subject to all sorts of misuse (worst was the birthplace for a litter of cats) and have survived 3 moves. Angie has been trying to find a leather one for over a year. With 4 cats, 2 dogs and me, it is difficult to keep a fabric sofa clean. Germans like to have massive L or U form sofas which I took some time getting used to, We now have a monster beige/yellow ochre L with an armchair and two massive "stools". Can hardly move in the room but it is comfortable, Angie's place on the sofa even having a tilting back and foot rest that springs up. She is sitting/lying in it as I type and seems to be very happy.

It seemed to be a long journey as trailers can (should) only be driven at 80km/h (50mph) and it was another warm sunny day. Luckily loading was easy, the sofa being in a large double garage. Then a few miles down the road we bought a sandwich in the local butchers and found a spot to let the dogs out for a run and short walk. This was near the town of Wertingen (in the Blip) the site of a major victory for Napoleon in 1805 against the Austrians as part of the Battle of Ulm where in addition to the Austrians, the Russians were defeated. I seem to remember a "little island" folk later had something to say about Napoleons pranks, helped by the Germans (but not the Bavarians who had sided with the French). Wertingen is even inscribed in the Arc de Triomphe.

Home at midday to clear out the old gear, clean and polish the wood floor and then get the new one in. Went well, Angie cooling down from time to time in the pool. I still have a pool ban but as the nights are very cool at around 10°C and the water is now at a freezing 23°C, it doesn't worry me.

Hope one and all are having a great weekend, some parts of the UK having a drop of rain I fear. It's on it's way to us tomorrow.
