The Gambling Addiction

With our Saturday morn boot fair called off at the first opportunity (mostly due to the fact it had been raining yesterday & it didn't look promising weather or business wise today, & just a small bit due to the geezer I spoke to on the phone calling me 'darlin' at the end of our conversation). It was going to be a wash out, back to bed!

A few proper, rested hours of sleep passed & we were ready & raring for the day. We had a late breakfast of pancakes with berries & an array of syrup's. It was then decided that as our earlier plans had been scuppered, Willow & I would take a jaunt into Brighton to fritter away a few hours & some loose change, whilst Jenny would hold the fort, sowing, knitting & exercising.

It was bright & breezy by the coast & we had a wicked fun time. We browsed in the Lego store, we wandered the lanes, we happily supped our Shakeaway's (mine was a 'Janet': a strawberry cheesecake & Oreo blend, topped with marshmallows - U-mazing!; Will had Vimto & ice cream - he couldn't decide if he liked it or not, even when he'd finished the lot!), we eagerly & hungrily meandered along the stalls of fresh food & drink behind Brighton Pavilion, nearly bumping into a rogue dalek terrorising the tourists (or being terrorised by the tourists.. more likely that one actually). We made our way to the Pier & despite Will's attempts to get me on a rollercoaster (not happening), we ended up in the arcade where we really splashed the cash!

2p's, 10p's & yes, even 30p's were flying into machines like you wouldn't believe. I was making it my personal quest to win a Minion from the grabber machines & Will was developing a serious (relatively minor really as thankfully we only had shrapnel to play with) gambling habit trying to win these pink tickets, which we later learnt you had to exchange for a receipt, which then meant you could win a tacky prize from their vast array of useless but colourful play things. Zero Minions & 58 tickets later, I chose Will a sticky alien catapult in exchange for our winnings & we left the cosy confines of the arcade changeless, dissatisfied but on the whole quite happy.

This is the street scene up toward the old pier in the direction of the setting sun. I love the shadows cast by all the seaside goers making their way back home.

It was a great day & Will & I had a super time in town. We returned home victorious (of sorts) to enjoy Jenny's homemade meatball calzone for dinner & to watch Marvel film Thor on the box.

I'm glad the boot fair was called off.
