Feasting on blackberries...

Much cooler today - a proper dewy autumn morning with a nip in the air - and ideal for a walk round Castor Hanglands. It soon warmed up in the more sheltered corners and as we picked just a few of the myriad of ripe blackberries, we were joined by commas and speckled woods, sucking up the sugary juices of the over-ripe fruit. Hornets hunted round the flowers of water mint and fleabane, never still in their search for a more meaty meal. And all around was the mewing of buzzards, the disyllabic call of the stock dove and the gentle drone of hoverflies.
