Emma D's diary

At home: sunless sunflower...x

I love sunflowers. Chrome yellow. Proud. Simplistic beauty.

It's a wonder how Van Gogh managed to paint the geometric detail with such grace. He obsessed, almost driven to distraction by natures beauty and perfection. Sometimes drawing from memory, Van Gogh said, " you just have to know how to draw the least thing".

It's the geometric beauty I wanted to capture. Not Van Gogh's chrome yellow sunflower. The truth is, Gogh's sunflowers were dying. A contrast between the beauty and vibrancy of life and the quick decay of death.

There's an old oak nearby. It died. Just like that. Just gave up. Why? People ask. When something so strong and beautiful dies its rather disturbing. It ruffles feathers thats for sure......x
