Hippodrome Theatre

Heritage Open Day 14th September.
We had a tour behind the scenes at this old established theatre in Todmorden.
The Hippodrome is a 485 seat Edwardian variety theatre in the Upper Calder Valley town of Todmorden. Owned and run by the Todmorden Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (or TAODS for short!) the Hippodrome was built in 1908 and is still presenting live events today.
Nowadays the Hippodrome presents a wide variety of events including musicals, plays, films, live music events and is home to the Hippodrome Youth Theatre, the youth section of TAODS.
In the days of mine and Mrs MD's youth - this was primarily a cinema and only occasionally used as a theatre. Today the roles are reversed.
A good day and an interesting day, helped by the enthusiasm of the volunteers who run the Hippodrome Theatre!
