BoB Day

Today, 15 September, is a commemoration of the Battle of Britain. It was the height of the battle, not the end but it wasn't as fierce after this date.
Every aircraft in No.1 Fighter group took to the air this day in 1940 to repulse a massive offensive by the Luftwaffe. They were driven back and their morale was broken, and determination to destroy the airfields was switched to bombing cities. This gave the RAF time to reinforce their aircraft, pilots and mend the broken airfields.
If the German forces had persevered who knows what might have happened, I may have been typing this in German!
