Paris, day 5

In the morning we went to the district of Montparnasse to visit the catacombs. Photoraphing was difficult as it was dark and using flash was prohibited. Still I managed to get some quite good shots of almost endless piles of bones. It was quite an impressive place, too bad there were so many tourists.

We walked to the park of Luxemburg where we had some baguettes, cheese, fruits and wine. The park was a beautiful one and it's very famous. There were miniature sailboats for hire and we rented one. We were given a stick with which to push the boat further from the edge of pool. Most people steering the boats were about 20 years younger than I:)

We walked to the city centre through Latin quarter's charming narrow streets and saw Pantheon from the outside on our way.

Yesterday we decided we'd go to Eiffel this evening as there'd be a shorter queue in the evening and the city looks different in twilight. We went just to the second floor but even that was easily the highest place we visited in Paris, 120 metres above ground. The view and timing was excellent. It was just starting to get darker when we got to the tower. About 10 minutes later the view got more interesting as it got darker and street lights were lit.

We descended down from the tower by using the steps instead of elevator. The lights inside the tower start flashing once an hour during dark. Climbing down from 120 metres was rather interesting, even more special with flashing lights. At some point in over 100 metres height I started imagining what would happen if I leaned to the fence and it would break. And got a bit scared:)

We took a taxi home as the district our hostel is located in might not be safe that late, 11p.m on Friday night. Especially since we looked like tourists, me carrying a camera and we also were paler than the locals. The taxi was surprisingly cheap, 15 eur for about 20-30 minutes ride. In Finlad it would've cost at least 10 euros more.
