William McIlvanney- godfather of Scottish crime

William McIlvanney, the godfather of Scottish crime writing, had us all under his spell this afternoon with his stories.

But it was his humorous ones about Jackie, his father’s dog, and the family pet canary that had us all captivated.

He was one of many writers taking part this weekend in Scotland’s international Crime Writing festival held in Stirling.

Canongate are re-publishing his books, which have been out of print for many years.

McIllvanney joked:” I feel as if I have been resurrected from the dead.”
