Alan Davie- Stirling Fringe Festival

Stirling has just had its first ever Fringe Arts Festival and a surprise was this pop-up art exhibition of Alan Davie’s prints.

Alan, an international artist, has local connections: he was born and brought up in Grangemouth, the industrial heartland of central Scotland .

Local mythology has it that after his first exhibition in Stirling at which he sold nothing he packed his bags and went south though this is not recorded as such in his official biography.

Now 93 years of age and living in Hereford he wintered for many years in the Caribbean which had a deep influence on his work.

Puzzled how the newly fledged Stirling Fringe Festival was able to pull off this coup I asked the invigilator, Robin Brechin.

“Well, it’s my private collection. I have been a fan of Alan Davie for many years. I thought I would give the Stirling Fringe a helping hand,” said Robin.
He lives in Stirling and, a joiner by trade, knocked up all the easels to display the work on because the empty shop did not want nails knocked into their pristine walls.
