A rare treat

I've been taking a few well-earned days off work and today I managed to get Mrs B to myself for a few hours so we could go for lunch. Appropriately enough given how wet it was in Glasgow today, seafood was the preference and we ended up at Gandolfi Fish in the Merchant City. We've been long-time patrons of the original cafe but this is the first time we've been to the latest addition to the Gandolfi empire.

The food was great - for me, devilled whitebait followed by smoked haddock risotto topped with a poached egg - but what really impressed was the service. Now, Mrs B has been known to be partial to the occasional Budvar and was disappointed to see that it wasn't on the menu here (unlike at the original cafe, four doors further up the same street). We mentioned our disappointment to the server who, without hesitation, offered to fetch us some from the cafe. Sure enough, five minutes later, she appeared at our table clutching a pint of the amber nectar which she'd duly carried up the street in the pouring rain. She was worth her tip and I'd certainly go back to any restaurant prepared to accommodate their customers like this.

Good food and good conversation, shared with my favourite dining companion - a great way to round off the week.
