Westmorland County Show

Cumbria is made up of parts of North Lancashire, Westmorland and Cumberland.
In 1974 the three regions were amalgamated to form Cumbria.

The Westmorland County Show retains its traditional title.

Sparky & Therry have just been awarded 2nd place in the "Ridden Heavy Horse" class.
Just behind them is Annie and LP (Little Prince) who came first.

They are both Clydesdales.

A few years back the numbers of Clydesdales dropped to just under 5000 from an estimated 250,000 in the 1900-1920 period.

Now there are a good few more fine animals to be seen up and down the country.

Some are used for pulling and increasingly , they are being ridden.
They are great fun to ride due to their gentle nature.
But don't think they are "plodders"! When they get moving they can cover the ground at a good pace.

Annie owns and runs Cumbrian Heavy Horses, where Sparky works for his keep when Therry isn't riding him.
