Buckingham Palace

We planned a visit to Buckingham Palace for my birthday last January and visited the Queen's Gallery and the State Rooms today. Photography is not permitted in the State Rooms but is allowed in the grounds.

It took about 25 minutes to get through queuing and security but it was worth it. Nash's design for George IV works well as you move from room to room. The art in the galleries is impressive. I liked the Rembrandts and Van Dykes in particular. As this is 60 years since the Queen's Coronation, there is an exhibition of the robes worn at the ceremony, along with the roses and clothes worn by Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and the Duchess of Kent.

This photo shows the west side (rear) of the palace. A tea room has been set up where we exchanged many pounds for two cream teas, but it was well earned after the visit to the State Rooms.
