The Big Adventure starts here!

Headed off about 09.30 – in the pouring rain and headed north in convoy with Jeb.
The rain stopped about Callander- which is about the time we hit the tourists driving at stupidly slow speeds……. Like having to speed up to reach the ‘reduced your speed to 40’ – and still not reaching it. We stopped off in Glen Coe to pick up Mrs Mac who has already had a week of photography with friends. Just as well really because we got stuck behind a couple of cars who seemed unable to keep up with a 24’ caravan coming across Rannoch Moor and down through the Glen. By the time we reached Fort William I was ready to commit murder. It improved when we turned off to head for Eilean Donan and ultimately Skye.
We stopped above Loch Garry to snap the cairn field and met a couple of Americans who were heading to Skye. They were completely bemused by all the wee cairns and the way the Forrestry Commission have planted the pines in weird shapes.
I skipped off before Jeb and Mrs Mac and the Americans and had a bit of fun on the empty corners for a few miles. When I stopped for some pictures the girls shot past with another car in tow followed remarkably closely by the Americans. Quite surprising really considering that he had some French rubbish” with the pedals too close together (he kept braking and accelerating at the same time) and a German speaking sat-nav. I think I gave him and the other driver a hell of a shock when I overtook on a long slow downhill left hand bend (you could see for about a mile) …. The girls were expecting it.
We stopped at Eilean Donan Castle and had coffee and scones with David Win, the Castle Keeper. That was a laugh. Then it was on to Sligachan on Skye to take some pictures and get eaten alive by the carnivorous midges (despite being smothered in various midge repellants) and have some food before moving on to the youth hostel at Uig for the night.

Tomorrow ………… the ferry to Harris
