Tomb raider

Today's adventure was a trip to Coniston Water and the village of Coniston where John Ruskin, the leading art critic of the Victorian era, is buried. In his work he emphasised the connections between nature, art and society. Born in London, he died at his house in Coniston on the 20 January 1900 from influenza and was buried in the local churchyard.

Coniston Water is also famous for another person who died here. In 1967 Donald Campbell was killed as he attempted to break the world water speed record. His hydroplane Bluebird somersaulted and crashed at 320 mph (483km/hr).

We quickly moved on to visit Ambleside and Grasmere.
