Saffron (Safran)

Our neighbours are back from Tunisia and gave us some gifts for looking after their cat for the fortnight. Included was a tub of Saffron, with a little leaflet, translated into English, French, Italian and Spanish. The smell is amazing.

I share here the English version - I just love mistranslations.

"It is the most expensive spice of the world. Saffron dried floral marks of the flower of crocus. The saffron is characterized by a bitter taste and a specific perfume. It is a sedative and gastric tonic and antispasmodique. It also contributes to the orange yellow colouring of paella, the couscous, of the bouillabaisse as well as the confectioneries, soups, or of the meat dishes."

So there you are. Look forward to using it to sedate myself!
