fame at last?

i didn't mention that in among the excitements of yesterday i got my hair cut - so i mention it now. for one, because RS was asking for a new SP (happy now? it's all you're getting!) and for two because i think i may become inadvertantly almost famous... due solely to standing in the signing Q for neil gaiman and ian rankin (great event, very interesting and very funny, and i really am looking forward to reading IR's take on john constantine, and thanks again to NG for being a Nice Chap, and hi to amanda palmer who was wearing the coolest coat and funkiest green eyeshadow!).

anyway, i was standing in the signing Q, clutching my two books and generally staring into space, when i realised someone was taking photographs of me... i believe he's the official snapper for the book fest, but he was off and away before i could ask to see them. so potentially i could be on one of those slides they put up on the screen while you're waiting for an event to begin - how weird would that be! (also, slightly rude of him not to ask, mention it, or indeed there be any notices up to say 'book fest snapper may be here, if you don't want your pic used then let us know', because tho i don't want to sound like a diva, i would like to have been aware that was going on and to have the opportunity to say no.)

also today: an excellent as usual val mcdermid, and a swift coffee and chat with RC, temporarily in the uk between exotic (if rather dodgy, what with him being a freelance overseas correspondent chap) locations. good to see you again pet, one of these days we'll be in the same city long wnough for me to buy you that long-promised pint!

EDIT: a year ago, i was at the book festival too!
