Just a splash

(I reached home at 11 PM tonight and now it is close to midnight. So, just a very quick, pre-meditated shot.)

Continuing along the same lines as yesterday, here are the contents of the front page of the most popular newspaper in the country -

- The country's most famous movie star accepting bribes from the mafia
- Corruption in the second largest political party of the country
- Rise of deaths due to swine flu
- How severely the rain crippled the city after a night's downpour
- Anatomy professor sending lewd and threatening SMSs to student
- Terrorist groups funding South Indian movies
- Ineffeciency of the police to capture suspects in murder case
- Fraudulent ration cards being distributed in huge quantities
- The Padma awards (highest honours for civilians) list being rigged

Even as I read the rest of the newspaper, there was no news that could lift anyone's spirits. Nothing about any great achievement, nothing about great adventure. It was filled with accusations at individuals in every field, organizations at every level, criminal activities of all kinds and so on. I would imagine such large media houses have a responsibility towards the nation to report news of all kinds. Not only things we should be cautious about, but things that can lift our spirits and inspire us. No wonder, there is so much cynicism amongst people.

On another note, I had gone to "The Chocolate Room" yet again, with a couple of friends from office, T & SD. The conversation that ensued was great fun. We hogged on the absolutely scrumptious food, no holds barred and had loads to laugh about. It is great hearing T and the genuine enthusiasm he brings. Far from this cynical world I've been mentioning. One is never too old for the youthful exuberance, so much a part of him. Three hours slipped away in the wink of an eye. Great food, good conversation, what more could one ask for to set the tone for the weekend?
