Salt and Vodka

Today was another early start as we were off on another excursion. This time the Wieliczka Salt Mines. It was a pretty amazing place. We traipsed down what felt like a million steps to discover a little town sculpted out of salt including a chapel, the lowest in the world where you can still get married today. Almost everything was sculpted out of salt including the huge chandeliers. After about two or three hours we were bought back to sunlight by the original lifts the miners used which was pretty hairy. A great trip but didn't compare to yesterday's.

Later we wondered around the very beautiful Wawel Castle in the sun, (pictured) I am not really a castle fan, but this one is pretty special. Then a quick cheap beer in the square before window shopping and stumbling upon a vodka shop that does tasting. It was wall to wall vodka, in large vials. For my first taster I chose one that sounded very much like creme brûlée, a safe option I thought. The lady poured it and placed it on our table saying 'not sweet, very very strong' she wasn't wrong, clearly other tourist had made the same mistake! It was horrible but the plum and cherry varieties that followed where very pleasant, the ginger vodka being the boys preferred choice.

Feeling tipsy after four generous shots, topping up the afternoon beers, we found a restaurant that was high up on my holiday saviour tripadvisor. We took a table in the beautiful gardens and ordered. I made a huge mistake and went for a healthy option. Note to self, never pick something off a menu that is titled 'fit' it means 'bland'. The boys was good though and the chocolate brownie we shared was very nice too. On our way back to the hotel we came across a shiesha bar, with the boy being partial to a shiesha whilst on holiday we popped in only to turn round and leave pretty quick. We had finally found the stag do part of Krakow and I didn't fancy spending my evening with a bunch of drunk English lads. (Only when at home!)

Another fab day in the beautiful city of Krakow.
