Monday's Fruit

Despite its nutmeg aroma and shiny, yellow appearance, the quince is a hard and acid fruit which makes it a suitable subject for many a Monday morning. I picked this rather large one last week and noticed waiting. Poor old quince, the Polish answer to lemons, of which there is no desperate shortage. To be fair, with the addition of sugar and an industrial straining effort they can be converted into a very pleasant jelly, the remnants of which can be converted to the sweeter form of a liqueur by addition of some alcohol, but by which time it's at least Tuesday.

Alternatively the fruit can be collected after the first hard frost, preferably by the light of a full moon and steeped in spirit to make the more bracing version after a long, long wait. For those who don't want their livers to take on the hard and swollen appearance of the fruit, then an alternative is to sprinkle them sliced with sugar to add to tea in the same way as lemon. It might be appropriate to try it with G&T, but that's still an unexplored ocean. I might give it a go.

I caught this solitary specimen who had made it to the balcony as he was considering his impending róle in inflicting a glancing blow to a dancing dog below.

My Monday was busy, but my week started very well with one particularly nice and another very nice email, the particular one from CA.

Greetings to C and all the A's where-ever you are!
