Gray's Mansion

Reno does have a very interesting history and has it owns share of old "ladies" - the beautiful old houses which grace the lanes off the main streets. I have often thought about just walking around the area, but have never really had the time . . . or never took the time . . . until today.

After the craziness settled down, I broke away and drove into the old section of Reno. I found a convenient place to park and just started walking the streets, taking photos of these lovely older homes. Most are not "mansions", but merely lovely homes.

The Gray's Mansion was built around around 1910 by Joseph Gray, with his partner Hosea Reid, built Reno's first department store. The mansion has a southeast-northwest exposure. The back of the house has a lovely view of the Truckee River and an expansive vista of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the west.

The shot was taken using a monopod (no - haven't bought the tripod yet . . . still looking). I tried several different exposures, but preferred the every so slightly underexposed aperture of f/8 with a shutter speed of 1/160 sec. with my ISO set at 400. Using Photoshop, I brightened and heighten the contrast slightly, and warmed the shadows slightly. I also put into a black and white and sepia motifs, but still liked the color version best.
