The Icelandic Sagas - Ice Ice Baby

This is Jökulsárlón (Glacial Lagoon) where we spent around 4 hours this morning. The lagoon has a number of icebergs that are piled about around the outlet to the sea where they slowly melt until they can fit out the tongue and be carried out to sea. There is a long black beach where they often wash up and we spent quite a bit of time playing around with long exposures there.

This shot is more in the lagoon but shows the various types of colouration of the bergs. Jökulsárlón has been a setting for four Hollywood movies -- A View to a Kill, Die Another Day, Tomb Raider and Batman Begins. It was such a flat day like in the Lara Croft film I could just imagine Angelina riding around on those amphibians. They are still there but are now painted white and yellow.

From there we travelled up the East Coast. There was the most amazing scenery of still lakes and bays reflecting surrounding rolling hills or distant snow covered peaks. We then turned off highway No 1 and took a mountain pass to save some time travelling through troll country surrounded in mist and snow. Not much further on and down the pass was the most amazing Autumn colours of trees and vegetation.

We then passed through a monotone of snow and basalt and just when we had nearly reached Mývatn where we are staying now there were plumes of steam rising from the ground from hot springs.

The forecast is more rain and so we are all getting a sleep in in the morning.

Thanks so much for following this journey with me. I am sorry I haven't had much time for commenting but I do appreciate your comments.
