Feed the Birds...

Backblipped 02.10.13

Quick update on yesterday’s blip. Ele, Gail, Natalie and I had THE most amazing meal at a fantastic local restaurant. The food, service and surroundings were fabulous. First time I’ve been but most certainly won’t be the last.

Came home to discover poor Marion had struggled getting Alan into bed as the hoist wouldn’t work. It’s as if there’s no power getting to it. We tried all sorts to get it working but to no avail. Honestly, something always goes wrong as soon as David is out the country. Last year the lap strap on Alan’s wheelchair snapped hours after David had left and we had to cobble together a temporary fix using the strap from his shower chair!

It will have to be two person lifts every time I need to transfer Alan for the rest of the weekend (and until the hoist is fixed although David is very bad and still lifts him by himself.)

So, after a bit of a late one, Ele, Gail and I enjoyed a leisurely morning. (Natalie had to go home last night) Lie in then a chat over orange juice, coffee and toast. Alan obliged us by having his usual lie in. Gail left, got Alan up and ready and I gave him lunch before Eddie arrived at 1pm.

When Eddie arrived Ele and I headed off to the Farm Coffee shop to have a very lovely lunch of soup and a sandwich. We stopped short of having anything sweet but bought some gooey, rich looking gingerbread to bring home for later.

Eddie and Alan had been busy while we were away and by the time we got back they had built Alan’s new bird table. It’s just outside his bedroom and it just had to be today’s blip.

This is going to be one of his and Eddie’s “projects”. I think it’s a great idea as it will be good for Alan to experience being responsible for feeding other living creatures so he sees he's not the only one who relies on others to feed him. Sadly there weren’t many bird visitors this afternoon but he knows the birds will soon learn the food is there and the table will soon have regular visitors.

While I made Alan’s dinner, I left Ele looking for a suitable holiday house in Cornwall for us for next summer. I have been trawling the internet for weeks to no avail. Well would you believe it, about 20 minutes into her search she found what looks like the ideal place! Big enough for all of us and enough space for Marion and Eddie who will hopefully come a week each to help look after Alan and give us all a bit more independence. They will have their own living space, kitchen and ensuite bedroom within the property.

Texted the web link to David so him and Kenny could have a look. He’s going to get back to me, hopefully to say go ahead and book it!

Fingers crossed!
