Cooper's Meadow

Having gone into Marlborough on a quest for exotic foods from faraway places (in Waitrose) and loaded the results into the car, I sauntered off in search of a blip. The weather was unpromisingly dull, overcast and slightly wet. My walk began at 1630 hr behind the car park, where the River Kennet's tributary, the Og, runs besides a residential development and joins the main river, and then into Cooper's Meadow. A sign told me that this water meadow was being grazed by Belted Galloways, but they looked a lot like sheep to me. Before the second world war the meadow was used to overnight sheep when they were on their way to the market in Marlborough. It was regularly flooded to protect the grass from frost and add nutrient to the ground, providing diversity of species.

This blip was taken on the south side of the meadow with the River Kennet running alongside the path to my left, in poor light at 1647 hr.
