Sunny sunny day

What a fantastic day - all the more unexpected as we are now in October.
I did a bit of tidying in the garden - there are lots of weeds around and I wanted to do a bit of sorting out before it gets too miserable and cold. Came across a garden tiger caterpillar on the scabiosa and lots of little frogs in the longer grass. I cleared some of the mint from the pond - it had gone mad and ended up pulling out several of the plastic planters. Saw a huge dragonfly larva in one of them - hope to see it emerge next spring. I gave the bird feeders a good clean and filled them again. The local Robin was keeping a close eye on what I was doing and decided to snack on the pyracantha berries while he was waiting for the feeders to be topped up with sunflower seeds.

Decided to take advantage of the sun and go for a walk this afternoon. We went along the Thames towards Caversham and enjoyed watching everyone promenading, cycling, running and paddling along the river. Only saw one heron but lots of swans, ducks, geese, a grebe and a cormorant. The conkers were falling from the trees and onto our heads.

Had a quick go at cutting the grass when we got back. It had just about dried out enough. I had to go along the edges to look for small frogs and still had to rescue a few that hopped out as I came past.

It's getting cooler and greyer now but it has been a lovely autumn day.
