The Kent Bore

Our friends in Storth took us to Arnside this morning to watch the tidal bore as it came up the Kent estuary (better detail seen in large).

Although the bore was not spectacularly high, never having witnessed such a thing before I was surprised at the sound it made, like waves against shingle, before the leading edge became apparent to the eye. Then it came, tumbling over the sand and rolling up the river before harrying the railway viaduct, and gone in a couple of minutes.

I kept an eye out for gladders and co (well, Gus or Wifie as I wouldn't know Himself by sight) but they were not in evidence. Another time, perhaps.
