Bellingham Day 3

I haven't posted the last two days of photos yet, but I'll get there soon, I promise. I'm now in Bellingham with my friend Kat, who I met at UEA in 2010.

Today we had a lazy morning after a long and late ending day yesterday, but for the afternoon we went out to a farm that does fall (autumn) stuff for kids. There was a corn maze (literally a maze through the corn field), pumpkin patches (where you could pick your own pumpkins), food vans, apple orchards, and a shop selling every kind of pumpkin known to Cinderella plus other harvest/Halloween themed stuff. Apparently this is the kind of thing that people do in the October here, there were a lot of families running around having a lot of fun. Kat and I went through the maze, taking far longer than two adults probably should need to find all the answer points. We looked at the pumpkins (Kat picked up some mini ones for some later use), patted a goat, looked in the shop, and ate deep fried cheese curd (which was delicious).

Not only was that fun, but the drive out to the farm was also spectacular, through mountains and thick woods. This area reminds me a lot of home, although with different species of trees. The landscape of hills and mountains, with roads curving through along wide ocean views, of small houses tucked away, of jagged and smooth crests, carries something of Tasmania in it. It's nice to be back in mountain country.

After a detour to Target for some essentials, we got back to Kat's fairly tired. We took the dog for a nice long walk, then made dinner and crashed. A friend of Kat's came around to watch a movie, and we ate icecream sandwiches, watched her dog play with Kat's ward-dog (she's actually pet/house sitting), drank tea, and watched Safe Haven. It wasn't great, but definitely also wasn't helped by how distracted we were.

Now it's time for bed. Tomorrow will be an 'explore Bellingham proper' day, but I'm not sure what our plans are beyond that.

Also, in this photo the white cap in the far distance is Mount Baker, which we've been seeing on and off over the last few days, but today it was particularly clear.
