The Edge of the Wold

Lift off

The wily heron had staked out the fish pass up the weir on the Kent. Any salmon reaching this far upstream will already have run the gauntlet of numerous anglers on the riverbank. But the heron had the best spot, at least until we disturbed him. He was reluctant to go, hence this is a much closer view than I can normally manage with the flighty birds of the Kent catchment.

I went for a walk in the drizzle with Sue and Rowan at lunchtime, Gus was at home with Wifie and Bob. It was overcast all day, until almost the last moment when there was brilliant sunshine through a gap in the clouds as Gus and I did our estuary walk. I missed the moment.
