Striking Contrast

Out for a walk today I was struck by the contrast between these adjacent objects. On the one hand the beauty of the leaves in their autumnal tones and on the other the ugliness of the bin aggravated by the graffiti.

Again another quiet day, helping a friend get potatoes from a farm shop and other light domestic duties. In the 1745 book the Jacobites have crossed into England and captured Carlisle.

My lighter book at bedtime is the latest "Reacher" novel, hokum but strangely gripping.
