But, then again . . . . .

Ladies Who Do Morning Coffee.

As there was a beekeeping lecture I wanted to go to in the evening, my Wednesday cycle was abbreviated a little. So, rather than go East with the club and do battle with a strong headwind on the journey home from lunch, I went to West Linton for morning coffee and then over the Meldon Hills to end up at Eddleston for lunch. It was a lovely day with plenty of photographs - a few of which were presentable. I do like the road over the hills, which ever way you approach it, there's a satisfying climb followed by a rewarding descent, the tail wind only added to the pleasure.

At the Toll House in West Linton two mature ladies had parked their vehicles by the front door while, inside, over the excellent coffee and cheese scone, I was able to overhear (I couldn't actually avoid it) their conversation. I now know all about their knees, their eyesight and the scandalous price of bacon. There were a few other things as well but, perhaps it's best if we don't go there.

The lecture was about the co-evolution of bees and flowers; of course, you can only gain an overview of such an extensive topic in the course of an hour but, it was very interesting and covered such things as the split ends and electrostatic problems which affect the bees' hair and upon which they (and the flowers) depend.
