Stoke Tunnel at Ipswich on the Great Eastern

The only tunnel on the Great Eastern Main Line is south of the current Ipswich railway station. The 361 yd long tunnel was built by Peter Bruff as part of the Ipswich to Ely Line. It was completed in 1846.

During the excavation of the tunnel many fossils were uncovered, including rhinoceros, lion, and, mammoth; known as the 'Stoke Bone Beds'.
