Ovine Curiosity

These recently-shorn Icelandic ewes found the farm cat an object of great interest!

No, we've not returned to Iceland -- not yet, anyway. We were at our friends' small farm today, where we enjoyed seeing "way too many" Icelandic sheep, as they describe their flock, among other animals. A couple of their lambs will be in our freezer in another month or so. They will meet their end where they had their beginning, on the farm -- as quick and humane a death as possible.

Today's gathering offered the opportunity to press apples many of us brought into fresh cider, the experience of seeing -- and sampling -- a whole pig (our friends') roasted in a pit (see Phil's blip), sharing a delicious potluck supper, watching the children whack a piñata afterward, and reveling in gorgeous autumn sunshine throughout the event.

(Thank you so much for the hearts and stars for yesterday's blip -- I'm deeply touched and grateful for your comments and generosity.)
