Day 24 - Sober for October

Jeez Louise it's perishingly cold!!

Yesterday rescued itself after lunch - in the morning we ventured out to the little food festival in Filey, got utterly drenched but came back with Dandelion & Burdock cordial which is my childhood in a glass. (Of course ours was fizzy and came via the pop van and we weren't actually allowed to drink it: it was Dad's. There were many happy moments spent hidden behind the potato sack in the pantry guzzling illicit B&D and munching on stolen Wagon Wheels.) I've discovered that the cordial version is very nice hot: especially in this weather.

After we'd dried out in Layla's flat and learned about our very special family traits from Mr Chris (who has us spot on and can provide a manual should anyone be brave enough to take me on!) we went to the park and then after goodbyes off to Filey Brig where the waves did not disappoint. We were a bit tight for time and couldn't linger too long in the rock pools: it's not a place to get stuck at high tide or in the dark. We'll go back.

Charlie made me weep when I was tucking them into bed after their story. He told me that it was the best day of his whole life ever.

Let's see if we can keep it up: this week is shaping up to being the best of mine too.
