Three Times Caked

Girl and I don't get many Daddy days nowadays, mainly due to education. Not that Daddy days are not educational, they are. It was a Daddy day that once meant Girl wowed her nursery peers with basic tree knowledge. However it's fair to say that Daddy day education is not that structured and that the main focus of the syllabus is cake.

Anyway today was an inset day and so it was back to Daddy educating, and we had a fair amount of catching up to do. So after dropping Boy at nursery Girl and I headed to her first cafe of choice for a pastry brunch, and I have to say as expected it was a first class pain au raisen.

Given that we had no plans before our scheduled afternoon activity of Girls choosing we wandered the streets to wander off the pastry until lunch at Girls second, and fair to say lower quality cafe choice. That said the poor sandwiches were more than made up for by the fact that my favourite, a vanilla slice, was panting at us through the protective glass of the counter. Girl gave it the green light so obviously we destroyed it in a pincer movement (Girl took the icing out while I took the rest) before starting the long walk home feeling slightly over moreished before taking on the chosen activity.

Girl decided what activity we were to do a few days ago, and I have to say it went better than expected. Yes we overcooked it a bit, but the proof is in the pudding, and this Blueberry Sponge was pretty good for a first effort.

Since Girl has been at school she has learnt to read, to write and to sing one direction songs. As pleased with the first two as I am there is some fatherly proudness in the fact that I have taught her that a cake can be a great, which when shared is greater, oh and the trees, let's not forget the trees.
