Central Park, NYC

A view of Central Park late this afternoon (near Central Park West and 97th St.) Fall color is barely underway. The smooth surface rock on the right and on the rise behind were probably caused by glaciation during the last ice age.

We’d just returned from a visit to the Jewish Museum, where we saw an excellent exhibition on Chagall; it was entirely different from a larger one that had been in Paris last winter. It focuses on the1930s and '40s, with included a substantial number of paintings depicting the crucifixion of Jesus, which Chagall saw as symbolizing the suffering of Jews under fascism and World War II.
