The Haslemere Panel

We were at Haslemere Educational Museum in Surrey this afternoon for the first time. I loved this embroidered panel and am sorry I can only show a detail. It’s just too large to benefit from a full picture.

The Haslemere Panel was presented by the Haslemere branch of the Embroiderers Guild to the Museum in 1987. This detail features the Museum in the bottom left corner, the famous three limes of Haslemere, and the Haslemere Coat of Arms. The motto, Vita Musis Gratior, means Life is more satisfying through the Muses. The two hazel leaves and the central wavy roundel represent the town’s name. The arms are relatively new, only presented in 1959 .
