Champagne Tasting

Woke up late this morning, still not quite back on UK time.
Went to the butchers to get some game mix for a stew on Sunday night and a few bits for someone at work.
While J went to have her haircut I popped up town to get a new dress shirt for the black tie event tonight. We have booked tickets to champagne tasting at the Whisky Society. 10 difference champagnes and a 5 course dinner.

Being a good husband I told J that her hair looked great when she got back. I also asked if she liked my haircut that I had had done the night before. Her excuse for not saying anything before was that I had just had a trim. Seem to remember loosing a lot of husband point in the past for exactly the same thing, or doesn't it matter the other way around.

Champagne tasting was great. We had a glass of Veuve Clicquot when we arrived as an opening gambit.

With the starter of artichoke velute with black trumpet mushrooms we had half a glass of Devaux 2002 and Ruinart blanc de blancs

The starter of seared scallops with octopus carpaccio, saffron vinaigrette was accompanied with half a glass of Laurent - Perrier Ultra Brut and Pot Roger extra cuvee de reserve.

We then had an in-between glass of vintage Dom Perignon 1995. Very nice and best one of the night.

Main course of Guinea fowl with caps and cap butter, cabbage with crispy bacon was accompanied with half a glass of Charles Heidsieck Millesime 1999 vintage rose and Laurent - Perrier cuvee rose.

As Maurice, who was hosting the event, was French the cheese course of Bonnington Linn, Epoisse de Bourgogone and Coulomiers was accompanied with half a glass of
Moet & Chandon rose and Heidsieck 2007 gold top instead of port. The Heidsieck was a great champagne and at the moment it is only £20 from Majestic wines. I trip there in the next couple of weeks is in order I think for some Christmas supplies.

Dessert was Poached autumn fruits with honey and walnut ice cream with half a glass of vintage Veuve Clicquot 2004 and Vintage Moet Chandon 2004. Both very nice but the Moet was slightly better for me but still not a patch on the Dom.

Slightly disappointed that we didn't get a dram with coffee. Still had a great night and good company. Came home for a dram and to catch up on some more holiday TV we had recorded.
