A Florida Heritage Landmark

We had no idea when we booked our one night stay on Jacksonville beach that our hotel would be next to a heritage landmark. This building is the American Red Cross Volunteer Life Saving Corps Station. It was established in 1913. Since then there were more than 1,500 life-saving rescues and 1.3 million volunteer hours at this station. We live on the east coast of Florida with the Gulf of Mexico. The ocean is not as rough as on the west coast with the Atlantic Ocean. This lifeguard station is well placed.

We took a lovely hour long walk on the beach before we had to give up the smell of the ocean and the feel of the sand between our toes to head back home.

Hope everyone had a restful weekend!
