from Wikipedia: The banana plant is the largest herbaceous flowering plant. More info HERE. This photo shows the flower spike or inflorescence that is opening up in my backyard. It is HUGE! (more photos) -The flowers are developing into new fruit. This is the largest one I have seen yet.

Previously I have ripened one of these bananas and found it tasted pretty good -a little different, but delicious. I picked a small bunch the other day, left them outside in the sun and they are ripening up nicely!
