Fog in the Skagit Valley

Today I had an appointment near the Canadian border to get my Nexus pass renewed -(so we can go over the border in the quick pre-approved lane.) I applied for the renewal in June; this was the first interview appointment.! So we decided to go early and have lunch in LaConner, go to the Museum of NW Art, and my biggest hope was to catch some snow geese or white swans migrating as we’ve seen them in the Skagit flats many times before. Not one in sight. Disappointing. Maybe they don’t fly in the fog. It was cold and foggy (stratocumulus cloud down to the ground) the whole time from Seattle to just before Bellingham when the sun broke through (it’s just enough higher and warmer there) , then fog again at the border. Back to beautiful sun in the Bellingham area on the way back, (and oh so much ugly traffic when we ventured off the highway to get a coffee) and then more dense fog which apparently never lifted (as it did in Seattle area) in the Skagit area . We made it home in time to go to the Cliff Mass Weather lecture at the UW-which is one reason I’m describing the weather. Very curious today... in the 40s in the fog and in other areas in the 80s! Winter and summer. A big inversion layer is hanging about. Chose this photo taken after lunch as it had a little color in it from a field of pumpkins (I think) Most of my photo were out of the car window...

I’ve put some not so wonderful photos on Flickr from today mostly to show the changes in the weather....in less than 2 hours from here to the border...
