To be Thrown Off Course

Over the last two days you have helped me to try and confirm that the young girl which we believe to be Katie Millicent Charles is the same person as the young lady in nurses uniform.

Katie was born in 1879 and so the photograph of her in nursing uniform would have been taken in about 1900 when she was 21 years old. I think that her appearance fits with that.

Now what do you think about today's picture? This is another portrait of Katie. it was painted by her father James Charles and must have been painted in 1906 or earlier because he died in that year.

She is still wearing a nurses uniform. Note that the uniform is rather more ornate with the magnificent bow at her neck. Perhaps she is now a ward sister or has moved to a different hospital.

She looks so much older in this portrait. By simple calculation she should be around 26 or 27 years old so is this really someone of that age?

However the more you look at her face in this picture, is it my imagination or does she appear to be getting younger?
