This is potentially what I could be spending the next couple of years looking at. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction curves. Not that exciting huh? It's showing increase of fluorescence over time as DNA is copied. How quickly the fluorescence is detected allows you to determine how much DNA there was in first place as the number of DNA molecules in the reaction is doubled every cycle of pcr. It's useful for things such as detecting how much virus is in you or how much bacteria is in your food. Or how many copies of bad genes that give you cancer you have.

Need to do a lot of swatting up this weekend to present and look as though I know what I'm talking about.
