Quod oculus meus videt

Lichfield Cathedral

A quick walk around Lichfield this morning. The cathedral is always worth a visit.

The east end, nearest to us is Lady Chapel. You may just notice that the glass windows are plain. The stained glass windows were removed in 2010 and are currently undergoing conservation work in York. They won't be returned until 2015. In researching this information I read that the windows were filled with Herkenrode Glass, bought by the church in 1803 to replace the medieval stained glass stolen during the civil war. The stained glass windows are substantially older and they were originally installed in Herkenrode Abbey in Flanders.
