Threelined Hover Fly

Helophilus trilineatus.

With the Angelica flowers opened the New Zealand native hoverflies, large and small, are out in force.

As I anticipated there was more snow on the mountains today. They were covered in cloud most of the time but when the cloud lifted a bit they were magnificent. See here, if you are interested.

The sun shone all day, but the nor'west wind, blowing down from the snow, was bitterly cold.
