Don't shoot the bassoonist!

Pictured here is a very fine bassoon, belonging to one of our fine bassoon players. I've always been fascinated by this beautiful, complicated looking instrument. This one here is made of maple with a fairly pricey bocal, which is what the metal tube that connects the wing joint to the reed is called. Bassoons, like oboes and English horns, are double reed instruments with a deep, rich, baritone sound.

It is the bassoon that you hear in the well known intro to Hall of the Mountain King. Click here for some hot bassooning.
