The Hand of God

Today I had a stroll in the streets and lanes around the Bank of England. I came across the sculpture at the entrance to The Royal Exchange. It's quite stunning when viewed up close.

Given its proximity to The Bank I wonder if there's a deeper meaning to the outstretched hand?
