Speedtrains and the future

Europe, of course, is the perfect venue for fast trains. It has a population of nearly 500 million in an area less than half the size of the U.S., a rapidly integrating economy, and some of the highest gasoline prices in the world. Besides curbing congestion and pollution, Europe?s high-speed trains are remarkably safe. In more than 25 years, there have been only a handful of serious accidents.
In Sweden we have been slow to follow the trend in central Europe as new tracks needs to be built. Although the geography is very suitable for hispeed trains. The precent model X2000 has a max speed of 200 km/h,next generation Regina 250 will top 250 on traditional rails.

In my homeland Norway with 80% mountains and winding narrow valley the will to develop railsystems is high but solutions for highspeed very complex, maybe the answer lies in drilling straight through the mountains?
