Eye of protection

This plate has been knocking around in the shop since we've been there, left behind by the previous owners. According to Reza, In Greek and Iranian culture, the eye offers protection from evil. I asked if the grapes and rose were symbolic of anything also, but he says no, they are there just as decoration. It is a cheap, tacky plastic thing, like a seaside souvenir, but I really like it. Neither of us are remotely superstitious, yet we keep this, just because it is pretty!
